BIO
I am a clinical psychologist with research expertise in comorbidity (physical health/mental health/substance use) and clinical trials. I lead IMPACT TRIALS, an independent multi-faceted research group within the Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation (IMPACT). I am Theme Leader for IMPACT’s Clinical Trials and Interventions theme. I have worked clinically in liaison psychiatry, cardiac and respiratory rehabilitation, and psychiatric rehabilitation settings.
I have contributed to 17 investigator-initiated clinical trials in a range of capacities, including leading trials, trial coordination, therapy delivery and supervision, and managing assessments and data. The treatments tested in these clinical trials have included repurposed medications (using existing medications for a different health condition), psychological therapies and behaviour change programs (delivered to the individual or group, and delivered face-to-face, telephone or online). I am a CI on the national Mental Health Australia General Clinical Trial Network (MAGNET).
I have a particular interest in long term recovery, mental health and wellbeing after (adult) stroke. My stroke research program has a strong emphasis on working with people with lived experience from the early design phase onwards. My current research program is exploring long term post-stroke vocational (work) support. I have also led research exploring screening and treatment of depression after stroke and TIA. I am a member of the Stroke Foundation's Research Advisory Committee.
