BIO
Dr Katie Rowe is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management in Deakin
Business School and is a member of the Centre for Sport Reserach and the Women
in Sport and Exercise group.
Katie's research focuses on sport and active recreation participation and
community development through sport, with a particular emphasis on issues of
relevance to women and girls. She has published her research in top sport
management journals including the Journal of Sport Management and Sport
Management Review. Katie also acted as a guest editor for a recent special
issue entitled 'managing sport for health', published in the journal Sport
Managment Review, in February 2019. Katie has presented her research at sport
management and physical activity conferences nationally and internationally.
She has also been successful in securing funded projects with organisations
including Sport and Recreation Victoria, The Office for Women in Sport and
Recration and Netball Australia and takes pride in conducting industry
relevant and engaged research.
Katie has gained extensive teaching experience in disciplines including sport
management, health and psychology. Within the Deakin sport management program,
she has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in subjects
spanning topics such as sport management, sport marketing, sport development,
sport performance and work integrated learning. She is also Course Director
for the Bachelor of Sport Development. Katie has also supervised Honours and
PhD students to completion.
Katie served on the board of the Sport Management Association of Australia and
New Zealand (SMAANZ) from 2014-2018, undertaking the role of Secretary from
2016-2018. Katie is also a current director on the board of Basketball
Victoria (2017-present).
