BIO

Dr Poshmaal Dhar is an early career microbiologist and immunologist, with an emerging track record in understanding the role of mucosal immunity on the incidence of chronic and immune-mediated diseases in humans. At 6 years post-PhD, Dr Dhar has published 17 peer-reviewed articles (7 as first author) in journals, such as Brain, Behaviour and Immunity, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Mucosal Immunology and Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica. After completing her PhD from the University of Melbourne in 2017, Dr Dhar was appointed as Lecturer in Medical Science at the School of Medicine, Deakin University to commence her role as the unit chair of the Bachelor of Biomedicine unit, Emerging Infectious Disease (HMM303) in 2018. Dr Dhar was awarded the prestigious Dean’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, Deakin University where she is leveraging her expertise in laboratory-based immunological and microbiological research and preclinical studies to integrate basic science with the epidemiological framework of world-renowned birth cohort study, the Barwon Infant Study to identify maternal and early life immunological factors that affect susceptibility to childhood disorders later in life. Dr Dhar is a CI on an MRFF grant (>900k), showcasing her expertise in the management, processing and analysis of biological samples and microbiology.
