BIO
Dr Trent Brown has national and international standing as a researcher and teacher educator within health and physical education (H/PE) curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. Trent works towards developing an evidence-base research agenda for H/PE that encompasses strengths-based approaches and utilises transformative pedagogies in movement, physical activity and sport settings. Trent's recent research work is focussed on understanding how teachers engage with curriculum, pedagogy and assessment within the focus areas of health benefits of physical activity and lifelong physical activity. In addition to this, he is interested in understanding how children and youth learn and develop their knowledge(s) of movement physical activity to use this in meaningful ways.
Dr Brown received his Bachelor of Applied Science (PE) degree from RMIT University in 1996. He subsequently worked as a specialist physical education and science teacher, before returning to RMIT to complete his PhD study examining PE teachers' knowledge of health benefits of physical activity and its impact on their practices during school physical education. He was awarded a national fellowship in 2014 of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) for his scholarly work and contributions to the profession on both a state and national level.
