BIO
Mehmet Ulubasoglu is a Professor of Economics at Deakin University. Mehmet is currently the Associate Dean (Research) and the Head of the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Business and Law. He was formerly the Discipline Leader in Economics and the Associate Head of School (Research) in the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance at Deakin.
Mehmet has published extensively in international journals, including in the Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Development Economics, European Economic Review, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, and American Journal of Political Science. He has also taught various courses from the first to third and Honours-year undergraduate levels, as well as for the PhD program at Deakin University. He has supervised 15 PhD students to completion as Principal or Associate Supervisor.
Mehmet has also undertaken several research projects linked with government and community organisations both nationally and internationally, including with the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre, Australian Red Cross, Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, Asia Pacific Network, and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre. He has held consultancy roles for the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. In 2012 he co-organised the Econometric Society Australasian Meeting, which featured the 2010 and 2012 Nobel Laureates in Economics and many other renowned scholars from around the world as keynote and invited speakers.
