Majed is a multi-award-winning architect and landscape architect with an intensive background in urban planning, interior design, and building and city science (Registered chief of architects in Jordan, graduate architect in Australia, and international landscape architect in the American Society of Landscape Architects). His research focuses on green infrastructure, energy and environmental performance, indoor and outdoor thermal performance, and smart technology applications in the built environment. Favour Agbajor is a doctoral researcher at the School of Architecture and Built Environment, Deakin University. His current research focuses on the integration of radiative cooling and solar photovoltaics for zero-carbon buildings. He holds a BSc degree (First Class Honors) in Building from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Nigeria, and a Masters degree (Distinction) from Durban University of Technology (DUT), South Africa. Besides, he served as a research and teaching assistant at DUT and the University of Cross River, Calabar, Nigeria. Prior to this, he worked in the industry and was involved in the construction of residential housing units, healthcare facilities, industrial warehouses, and duct engineering services, and later became a Certified Construction Product Lifecycle Assessment Specialist.
Mr. Agbajor has experience in building energy modelling, structural engineering design, construction planning and scheduling, climate modelling, etc. His interdisciplinary research revolves around building energy efficiency, green building, carbon neutrality, integrated energy systems, sustainable cooling, construction informatics, and urban climate. He has published over 10 papers in prominent peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. Also, he actively reviews for peer-reviewed journals, including Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Energy Reports, and Heliyon.
Mr. Agbajor is a recipient of several awards and prizes, including the Eni Award – Young Talents from Africa Prize (2024), Dean’s Merit Award for Academic Excellence (DUT), Gold Award for being the top Masters student in DUT (2023), DUT Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme (2021), the Shell Petroleum Development Company Joint Venture (SPDC JV) University National Merit Award (2016), among others. He is a member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG), the International Association of Electrical, Electronic, and Energy Engineering (IAEEEE), the International Society for Energy and Built Environment (ISEBE), and the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB).

I am a major infrastructure researcher and educator. I am dedicated to enhancing the delivery of major infrastructure projects by equipping decision-makers with robust, evidence-based insights crucial for strategic infrastructure planning, management, and delivery.
My research delves into the complexities of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects. I have a passion for exploring the intricacies of capital and operational costs, innovative procurement and contracting strategies, project adaptability, the societal impacts of infrastructure investments, and enhancing client capabilities for successful project delivery. My scholarly work drives significant advancements in understanding and mitigating construction cost overruns, future-proofing infrastructure, optimising project governance, and strengthening client competencies for cost-effective asset procurement.
I find great joy in collaborating with researchers from diverse disciplines such as politics, business, economics, IT, statistics, and psychology. The fusion of different perspectives adds a unique beauty and depth to the solutions we develop, often leading to more innovative and impactful outcomes.
I also thrive on working alongside industry organisations and government bodies on projects that are timely, relevant, and capable of making a real-world difference. Alongside my own research on megaproject procurement, cost overrun, and infrastructure governance, this role allows me to help shape the conditions under which our School's research can have genuine impact, both within the university and in the wider infrastructure sector

Peranakan heritage and a 6th generation descendent of Singapore's best-known
philanthropist Tan Tock Seng. English is my first language and I speak Malay
and some Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien). I had a British colonial
influenced Christian upbringing at home and a catholic all girls schooling. My
family background is well and truly transcultural.
I studied the VHSC at Taylors College Kuala Lumpur before gaining my Bachelor
of Architecture at Deakin University.
I completed a Masters of Architecture by Research in 2008 with a thesis that
investigated the value of early practice engagement in domestic and

I am a registered architect with a practice background in strategic design and briefing, designing and evaluating workplaces and learning environments. I have contributed to projects as diverse as Microsoft's Global Workplace Guidelines, the Friends of the Earth Headquarters in London, Central Saint Martins at the University of the Arts London, and the Footscray Learning Precinct.
My long-held interest in how architects create environments for wellbeing led me to complete a Master of Applied Positive Psychology. Since then, my practice and research have focused on the intersection of architects, architecture and mental wellbeing.
The title of my PhD is 'Embedding Mental Wellbeing in Architectural Practice: A Eudaimonic Perspective.' Drawing on interdisciplinary wellbeing science, my research aims to identify evidence-based fundamental principles for helping architects promote mental wellbeing in their workplaces and the environments they design for others. Dr. Beza's academic career was set in motion during his PhD studies where he combined aesthetic transactions and evidence-based decision making to produce outcomes. His thesis involved developing an aesthetic model that he used to identify local resident and tourist perceptions of the Mt. Everest landscape. This perceptual data, obtained from 150 respondents in Nepal and Australia, was analysed using statistical techniques (e.g. ANOVA, Cluster & Factor Analysis) and the aesthetic model to provide for evidence-based decision making in his development of a waste management system for the Junbesi Valley, Nepal.
Beau has undertaken a number of leadership roles at Deakin University. Below is a brief synopsis of each:Higher Degrees Research Coordinator (i.e. Doctor of Philosophy Coordinator) (current role)
School of Architecture and Built Environment
Role description: To provide academic leadership related to Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) in School disciplines (i.e. Architecture, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning). In my 2024 appointment, emphasis in my HDR role is in the Architecture discipline and acting on my agenda to improve female candidature enrolments and retention, single parent support, and establishing an understanding amongst staff/students of philosophical research (world)views and design research approaches. To identify and select PhD students to enter the HDR program, oversee supervisory arrangements between staff/students, and to ensure that candidates’ academic needs are met as well as to cultivate a scholarly atmosphere in the School. Chair relevant meetings (e.g. confirmation, progress support) and liaison with relevant Deakin University and faculty officers and academics. Provide training and development for supervisors and students through, for example, HDR seminars to ensure both parties participate effectively in the intellectual life of the school and faculty. To resolve disputes and/or provide support for students/staff leading to a PhD candidate’s successful submission of a thesis, thesis by publication, creative work plus exegesis or folio.

-Growing Up In Cities III. Dr. Beza is project co-lead and conducting research into young people’s contemporary urban life. He leads the project across 15 countries, where 40+ researchers are examining adolescent's perceptions of urban space to better understand the impact the local environment has on their lives.-Urban Space: Experiences and Considerations from the Global South](https://www.jstor.org/stable/j.ctvhn0bx4). An edited volume analysing and discussing the "appropriate, negotiation and reconfiguration of Urban Space in cities".
-Development and realisation of a Sensory Urbanism (SU) design research studio investigating the multi-sensory/temporal aspects of place. This studio led to the development of a SU [prototype](https://mindlab.cloud/place-making-using-virtual-environments-2/), involving Industrial Design and Architecture students from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogota, Colombia) and Deakin University's built environment PG students. Reporting of this prototype was published in 2019 and presented at the 24th Annual Conference of the Association for Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia. Currently, he is continuing this work with colleagues at the University of Sydney and Deakin University's [Mediated Intelligence in Design (MInD) Lab](https://mindlab.cloud/#about).
-Development and realisation of an intercultural design studio ([Finding Common Ground](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8inJADSJ-w)) focused on urban redevelopment in Melbourne and Mexico City as well as a conference paper and presentation at the International Urban Design Conference held in Sydney, Australia.
-Planning & realisation of a rural (urban) [development and rebuilding studio](https://www.facebook.com/keepwalkingnepal/photos/a.1072179576260596/1877816469030232/?type=3&theater). Since 2010 this studio examines community self-help/self-organisation practices, in a rural urbanising community in the Mt. Everest region of Nepal. Outcomes related to this work include a journal article published in Planning Theory and Practice (see, 17(2)) and a chapter titled Placemaking in a world where spirituality and community development meet - the Junbesi Valley, Nepal (see above book).
The above support a research and teaching framework that uses concepts established by Heidegger (1962, 2008; 1971, 1975) (being and dwell) and Lefebvre (1996) (an oeuvre and autogestion) to establish a philosophical foundation to Beza's work. That is, 'being' and dwell are used to structure arguments of the existence of urban space. This is extremely important when, for example, examining space created in informal settlements as these settings (in Colombia, Mexico) are largely considered not to exist in a formal planning/regulatory sense and are overlooked by city officials. Lefebvre's concept then allows for the '[ ] exceptional social capital and self-organisation practices [ ]' that display '[ ] distinctive socio-spatial qualities and dynamics that result from' the social production of space to be articulated. Yet, as the design profession is an experience based field Beza also employs Dewey's (1934) philosophical deliberations to explain '[ ] aesthetic transactions in human living'. Which allows him to use Dewey's work to provide a bridge to relate the above philosophies to that of the human experience of urban space, which can also be used to link relatively contemporary arguments of place established by Tuan (1971; 1977), Relph (1976), Whyte (1980), and Hayden (1996).

His thesis involved developing an aesthetic model that he used to identify local resident and tourist perceptions of the Mt. Everest landscape. This perceptual data, obtained from 150 respondents in Nepal and Australia, was analysed using statistical techniques (e.g. ANOVA, Cluster & Factor Analysis) and the aesthetic model to provide for evidence-based decision making in his development of a waste management system for the Junbesi Valley, Nepal.

Role description: To provide academic leadership related to Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) in School disciplines (i.e. Architecture, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning). In my 2024 appointment, emphasis in my HDR role is in the Architecture discipline and acting on my agenda to improve female candidature enrolments and retention, single parent support, and establishing an understanding amongst staff/students of philosophical research (world)views and design research approaches. To identify and select PhD students to enter the HDR program, oversee supervisory arrangements between staff/students, and to ensure that candidates’ academic needs are met as well as to cultivate a scholarly atmosphere in the School. Chair relevant meetings (e.g. confirmation, progress support) and liaison with relevant Deakin University and faculty officers and academics. Provide training and development for supervisors and students through, for example, HDR seminars to ensure both parties participate effectively in the intellectual life of the school and faculty. To resolve disputes and/or provide support for students/staff leading to a PhD candidate’s successful submission of a thesis, thesis by publication, creative work plus exegesis or folio.

Most recently, my contributions have been recognised through the Emerging Researcher Award from the Australasian Cognitive Neuroscience Society, and as a finalist of the NOMIS & Science Young Explorer Award.

Acknowledged as a leading and influential voice within the School, Dr Glenn P. Costin has worked in, designed for, taught and authored on, the construction industry for over 30 years across both the vocational and university sectors, before which he was a tradesman carpenter joiner working in Australia and internationally.
An experienced designer and craftsman, he has multiple domestic and heritage renovation works to his credit whilst also holding degrees in Education (B.Ed. Melbourne University, 1996), Anthropology and International Relations (B.A. Deakin University, 1996), a PhD (RMIT, 2004) and multiple trade qualifications. In addition, he has taught and worked in the United Kingdom, Papua New Guinea and many parts of Australia and was National Designer and Chief Judge for WorldSkills Australia for a decade.
Previously, Glenn has published seminal research on soft skill development - his definition of the term being used by European Union government bodies, European universities and throughout much of Asia - and the evaluation of the whole person in practice, an exegesis on advanced skill and knowledge development. His other major works include a major text on Construction Technology for Builders (used in both the University and VET sectors with a second volume awaiting publication), whilst his extensively used book on safe work practices, Construction Skills, now in its 4th edition, is a standard text across both Australian and New Zealand TAFEs.

I’m a passionate environmentalist, plant lover and overall nature enthusiast who loves spending time outdoors, with a book and preferably tea.
I completed a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honors) and Bachelor of Environmental Science (Environmental Management and Sustainability) from Deakin University, achieving high distinction and receiving several scholarships for my academic performance. This includes my current Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarship, Deakin STEM Scholarship, and Deakin International Scholarship. I was also the Runner-up and People's Choice in the Three-Minute Thesis competition for the School of Architecture and Built Environment in 2023.

As a Casual Research Assistant at Deakin University, I have supported diverse projects spanning environmental science, engineering, and indigenous knowledge systems. Previously, I have served as an Environment and Sustainability Intern at Deakin’s Faculty of Health, where I conducted sustainability audits and spearheaded initiatives like "Green Labs," demonstrating my leadership and innovation in promoting sustainability practices.
As an International student from Sri Lanka, I have worked as an intern at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), contributing to watershed health research and community engagement initiatives. Previously, I have served as an Environment and Sustainability Intern at Deakin’s Faculty of Health, where I conducted sustainability audits and spearheaded initiatives like "Green Labs," demonstrating my leadership and innovation in promoting sustainability practices.
As an International student from Sri Lanka, I have worked as an intern at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), contributing to watershed health research and community engagement initiatives. My efforts included statistical analysis, publication contributions, and youth program development aimed at fostering sustainability awareness in my community.
Through my academic and research background, I remain committed to finding solutions for global environmental challenges and promoting Indigenous engagement in research and policy.
