ProfessorLana Williams

Prof Lana Williams is a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Emerging Leadership Fellow, clinically trained Psychologist, Deputy Director for Population Health at the Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation (IMPACT), Deakin University and co-investigator of the Geelong Osteoporosis Study that encompasses one of the largest, comprehensive psychiatric epidemiological studies in Australia. Prof Williams founded and continues to lead CONEXUS Research at Deakin University, home to her team of postdoctoral research fellows, research assistants and higher degree research (HDR) students and program of work aimed at understanding the interplay between mental disorders, associated treatment regimens and physical disease. Prof Williams has been instrumental in delivering some of the first data in the area of mental-physical health comorbidity and currently oversees numerous multi-disciplinary, collaborative large-scale projects including, competitively funded, epidemiological studies and basic science projects (both in vitro and in vivo) and associated translational exercises, with numerous more in the planning stages. To date, Prof Williams has authored over 240 publications, including manuscripts which have been published in Molecular Psychiatry, American Journal of Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, The Lancet Psychiatry and BMC Medicine, attesting to the quality of work produced.
