Elena Gospodarevskaya was educated at the Lomonosov Moscow State University as
an economist-mathematician and worked for the USSR Academy of Science before
emigrating to Australia. The original academic foundation was complemented by
two post-graduate diplomas in economics, including qualification as a health
economist obtained from Monash University. Elena Gospodarevskaya worked on
projects funded by various Australian, United Kingdom and International
bodies. A career as a health economist spanning more than 20 years includes
the following major projects:
An economic evaluation alongside a randomised trial of buprenorphine as
an
alternative to methadone maintenance treatment in a Victorian community
setting (an award-winning project);
Systematic review and economic evaluation of bariatric (weight loss) surgery
for obesity. The NIHR report was cited more than 700 times and counting;
Cost-utility analysis of different treatments for post-traumatic stress
disorder in sexually abused children;
Estimation of patient costs of TB treatment in Bangladesh and Tanzania;
An economic evaluation alongside a randomised trial of a Line Probe Assay
for diagnosis of multidrug resistance in TB patients in Arkhangelsk region of
the Russian Federation;
Economic evaluation of simulated and traditional clinical placements in
occupational therapy education in Australia.
Currently employed as a Senior Research Fellow with the HTA group in Deakin
Health Economics, a self-funded research unit that specialises in health
technology assessments of pharmaceuticals, clinical devises and procedures for
the Australian Department of Health.
Author of more than 30 refereed publications. H-Index=12.
