BIO

Associate Professor Harminder Singh is a scholar and passionate academic in Finance discipline at Deakin Business School. 

 

Harminder has published in leading peer reviewed scholarly jounals in A* and A categories, to name a few, Review of Asset Pricing Studies, Review of Accounting Studies, Financial Review, Pacific Basin Finance, Finance Research Letters, Journal of International Financial Markets Institutions and Money, Journal of Asset Management, Journal of Multinational Financial Management, Review of Futures Market, International Journal of Managerial Finance, Journal of Asian Economics and International Journal of Business and Economics etc. 

 

He is on editorial board of Journal Macroeconomics and Finance in Emerging Market Economies. He regularly review research manucripts for leading A* and A Finance journals. He is on the panel of examiners in the field of Finance for Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Madras), Delhi Technology University (DTU Delhi), Indian Institute of Management (IIM Ranchi), University of New England, Curtin University, Macquarie University, etc.

 

He has received competitive grants from Bendigo Bank, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia, Australian Centre for Financial Studies, and the University Grants Commission, India.

 

Harminder has a research interest in Asset Pricing, Behavioural Finance, Asian Financial Markets and Corporate Finance.

In addition, He has devised and delivered Executive Development Programmes and Faculty Development Programmes to the participants of Baosteel (China), UCO Bank (India), BIDV Bank (Vietnam), HMV (India). 

 

His research has appeared in Times of India, Financial Review (Leading Australian Business Newspaper), The Tribune etc. He has regularly appeared in SBS interviews on Australian budget sessions.

 

In leadership roles, he has been Director of Executive Education with the faculty of business and law during 2018-2020. He has trained Government bureaucrats of Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh, Ministry of Commerce, Vietnam, etc. He has served as the Director of Master of International Finance (MIF) programme at Deakin University. He has served as coordinator Honours programme, seminar coordinator and discipline coordinator during his tenure at Deakin. 

 

He has been actively involved in the supervision of PhD students and Masters by Research students in Finance. His PhD scholars have been placed at University of New Brunswick, Canada, Indian School of Business (ISB), India; NDIS Australia, Hong Kong Futures Exchange, Mantel Group, Australia, ACCC Australia, Ministry of Finance, Indonesia, etc. In 2023, his PhD scholar Prqasanna Tantri recieved Alfred Deakin Medal for his excellent doctoral thesis.

 

He has initiated networking and collaborating arrangements representing Deakin Business School in the field of finance with Indian School of Business (ISB), India; Mahidol University, (Thailand); Kobe University (Japan); De La Salle University (DLSU), (Phillippines); Western University, (Canada); Danang University of Economics (Vietnam); Shandong University (China); IIM Udaipur (India); Delhi Technology University (India); University of Twente, (The Netherlands); University of Moratuwa, (Sri Lanka); Chulalongkaran University, (Thailand); Emory University, (USA).

 

He has been panel of Judges for the annual awards of SME business in Whitehorse council for 3 consecutive years in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

 

His teaching experience includes Equity and Investment Analysis (B.Com), Advanced Investments (Honours), International Finance (MIF), Treasury and Risk Management (MIF).
