BIO

My research spans the metabolic biochemistry, integrative physiology,
endocrinology and analytical chemistry fields. Specifically, I am interested
in insulin and glucagon secretion and action as well as understanding how
glucose, amino acid and lipid metabolism are coordinated across different organ systems

(liver, pancreas, gastrointestinal, muscle and adipose tissues) in vivo.

I am also interested in the evolution of hyperinsulinaemia and organ specific insulin
resistance along with the role they play in disease development, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

I utilise both human and rodent in vivo experimentation, and am specialised in the use of stable isotope metabolic
tracer methodology and quantitative targeted metabolomics. I manage the
biological gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry platform within the Metabolic
Research Unit (Waurn Ponds) and am also Chair of the Deakin University Human Research Ethics Committee (DUHREC).
