BIO
I am a teaching and research academic within the School of Life and
Environmental Sciences and the Centre for Integrative Ecology.
I am a Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at Deakin University.
Between 2008 and 2010 I was an ARC Research Associate at James Cook
University, and prior to this a post-doctoral fellow at the Museum of
Victoria. I completed my PhD at James Cook University (2007) on the ecology
and conservation of the antilopine wallaroo.
My research is cross-disciplinary and focuses on broad but interconnected
themes:
1. Analysis of the factors that limit the distribution and abundance of
species and those that are responsible for biogeographic patterns of species
diversity.
2. The ecology and conservation of Australia's native mammals.
In answering these questions I span a diverse range of fields of study;
including behavioural-, community- and evolutionary-ecology, conservation
biology, landscape ecology and wildlife management.
My aim is to better understand species' niches and their ecologies, species
interactions, and ecosystem dynamics, and in turn, use this information to
inform more effective conservation, policy and management of biodiversity. I
also dedicate considerable time to science communication and public outreach.
