BIO

I am Professor of Philosophy, a Member of the ARC College of Experts, and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities (FAHA). My research has been supported by Australian Research Council grants (Lead CI on two Discovery Projects). I have written five books, including Merleau-Ponty and Derrida: Intertwining Embodiment and Alterity (2004), Analytic versus Continental (2010, with James Chase), Chronopathologies (2010), and most recently Phenomenology, Naturalism, and Science: A Hybrid and Heretical Proposal (2018). A sixth book is currently being completed entitled Merleau-Ponty, Embodied Cognition and Enactivism: Between Phenomenology and the Life Sciences. Some of my work has examined and helped to ‘bridge’ the so-called divide between analytic and continental philosophy. My recent work has become more interdisciplinary in nature, while continuing to address philosophical and empirical issues concerning embodiment, temporality, and social cognition, including their variability.
