RESEARCH INTERESTS
Prof. Francis's research over the past two decades has involved: (i) spectroscopic and electrochemical interrogation of chemical reactions that produce light (chemiluminescence, electrochemiluminescence (ECL) and light-emitting electrochemical cells) to elucidate key reaction steps and emitting species; (ii) the design of novel reagents and catalysts that provide exquisite control over the reactions and orders of magnitude greater analytical sensitivity; and (iii) innovation in flow-analysis technologies and microfabrication of novel analytical devices for superior detection, sample handling and portability. Derived from this fundamental research Prof. Francis's team has developed new detection systems for a range of important real-world applications.
