He is also interested in health issues related to vitamin D deficiency (and treatment), dietary protein, omega-3 fatty acids and chronic low-grade systemic inflammation, and the translation of evidence-based research into practice. He has been an active contributor nationally and internationally to clinical guidelines in the area of exercise, sarcopenia/frailty, and calcium and vitamin D for osteoporosis and fracture prevention. He is a former President of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Sarcopenia and Frailty Research (ANZSFR); former council member of the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society (ANZBMS); a long-standing (current) member of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee of Healthy Bones Australia; Co-chair of the past three International Symposium on Nutritional Aspects of Musculoskeletal Health (formerly Osteoporosis) meeting; current Co-chair for the Sarcopenia Special Interest Group, European Geriatric Medicine Society; and a member of the Canadian OsNET Bone Health Research Network Advisory Board.
