TEACHING EXPERTISE
As a former teacher education has been an important part of my career and this continued at Deakin, where I have been involved in undergraduate teaching and Post-Graduate supervision, starting with physics at first year level when I started a PhD in 2010. Over the following years responsibilities increased to being Assistant Unit Chair for first year physics, establishing and co-unit chairing the third year subject 'Materials Chemistry' from 2015 to 2018 and teaching first year Engineering Materials in 2015 and 2016. More recently the supervision of post-graduate students has been my main form of teaching and while this is considered research focused, having such an education background is valuable in scaffolding the learning process that occurs as a student progresses through their candidature to become an independant researcher. This has so far resulted in 11 students being awarded their PhDs.
