BIO
Associate Professor Toija Cinque is a recognised academic leader in the field of Communications (Digital Media). As a communications and media theorist, and creative researcher, she has significantly contributed to digital humanities, the study of data cultures, and socio-technological theory. She has authored or co-authored 9 books and over 100 articles, papers, reports and book chapters. Toija's sole-authored research monograph (Routledge, 2025) developed the new concept “medialogy” theorising how contemporary artificial intelligence, interactive and immersive media reveal the material consequences of digitalisation and energy use. Her expertise is frequently sought by the media for commentary on contemporary media and communications developments.
Toija is the founder of the Intelligent Media Lab, a data futures initiative aimed at leveraging emerging screens and digital technologies for educational impact and transformation; and, co-leads the Deakin Digital Life Lab.
