BIO

I am an Adjunct Professor at Deakin University and an internationally recognised expert in heritage, difficult histories, and memory. I am an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, an Honorary Principal Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and an alternate member of the Victorian Heritage Council.

My career spans academia, heritage practice, and senior leadership. I spent five years in Higher Education in the UK, first as a Research Fellow at the University of Stirling and then as a Lecturer in Historical and Cultural Geography at the University of Hull. Moving to Australia in 2002, I held senior positions in the heritage and museum sector, including at the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and the Shrine of Remembrance. In 2011 I returned to academia at Deakin University, serving as Course Director for the Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies Programs. From 2024 to 2025 I was Chief Executive Officer of the Melbourne Holocaust Museum, and I am currently Executive Director of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria.

I have published over 40 scholarly works, including three monographs in the fields of history, heritage, and memory. My Google Scholar profile provides a full list of publications.
