BIO

Professor Susan Balandin trained as a speech pathologist and is expert in the
field of communicative interactions of people with lifelong disability. After
working as a clinician in the field of lifelong disability for many years, she
obtained her PhD from the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University.
Prior to taking the position of Chair of Disability and Inclusion at Deakin
University she held teaching and research positions at the University of
Sydney, Molde University College Norway, and Victoria University, New Zealand.
She has additional research interests in the communicative interactions of
people who are ageing with a lifelong disability, community participation,
social media and its impact on friendship and loneliness in people with
lifelong disability, health interactions in hospital and in the community and
how adults with lifelong disability, as experts in disability, can contribute
to the education of health professionals.
