BIO
Kat Aston-Mourney is a researcher passionate about finding better treatments and cures for diabetes, and training our next generation of researchers and clinicians.
Kat obtained her PhD in Medical Research from the University of Melbourne in 2007 and undertook a 5-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA before relocating her research program to Deakin University School of Medicine in 2011.
She currently heads the Islet Biology Research Laboratory supervising several honours and PhD candidates and is the deputy theme lead for Molecular Medicine within the Institute of Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation (IMPACT).
Kat is also a lecturer in Medical Science, running the Human Biology block in the first year of the MD degree, and is a senior leader of graduate research degrees in the Faculty of Health.
