DrBin Tang

I am a materials researcher at Deakin University’s Institute for Frontier Materials, specialising in sustainable fibre and textile manufacturing, polymer processing, functional textiles and nanomaterials. My research integrates polymer formulation, extrusion, melt spinning, fibre and yarn characterisation, and fabric development to transform biodegradable, bio-based and recycled polymers into application-ready materials. A central focus of my work is understanding how material composition and processing conditions influence fibre structure, manufacturability and final performance.

I undertake key technical responsibilities in industry-linked research projects, progressing emerging materials from pellet and formulation assessment through extrusion, melt spinning, yarn characterisation and fabric formation. Through this work, I develop processing knowledge and practical recommendations that support process optimisation, scale-up and the translation of new materials into fibre and textile applications.

My broader research expertise includes functional nanoparticles, porous materials, advanced coatings, SERS-based sensing, adsorption and environmental applications. I work across fundamental materials research and applied process development, collaborating with researchers and industry partners to optimise fibre manufacturing and translate emerging materials into scalable applications.
