RESEARCH INTERESTS
James commenced work with CISR immediately after becoming the first Robotic
Engineering graduate from Deakin University in 2002. As a postgrad, he
completed a PhD entitled 'Haptically simulating soft tissue using spherical
voxel and reactive agents'. More recently, James has been involved with the
development of the OzBot series of mobile robots, which is currently employed
by the Victorian police for bomb disposal and hostage negotiation tasks.
Strength in developing technology for real-world applications by combining
electronics, mechanical, and programming skills has allowed James to work on
several high profile projects, to travel extensively to promote CISR's
activities and to meet some interesting people. Recently James was tasked with
developing a major demonstration project for the Australian Defence Force
involving haptic (force feedback) control of a remote manipulator.
James' research interests include robotics, haptics, stereo-vision, flight
simulators and real-time control. His person interests include spending time
with his family, as a CFA (Firefighter), running and restoring classic
vehicles.
