DrVu Le

Vu Thanh Le is a Mechanical Engineer who graduated in 1998 from RMIT (1st class honours). He is currently a senior researcher with the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation at Deakin University. His research interest is in the area of complex systems, modelling and simulation, optimisation, data analytics, and machine learning for predictive maintenance. He is also interested in novel human machine interface and haptics.

Vu has broad experience in discrete event modeling, data analysis, multi-scenario analysis, software development, automation, and database systems. He has worked on several research projects in fields such as airport security checkpoints, baggage handling systems, air cargo security systems, scheduling and allocation of cargo items to unit loading decks and flights to meet schedules, pallet allocation and optimization in warehouse operations, simulation of coal mining stockyard stacking and reclaiming operations, simulation modeling of aircraft manufacturing processes, carbon fiber manufacturing process simulation, and modeling of election voting processes. Additionally, he has developed an election data capture tool, worked on scheduling and medium-term production planning (including workforce planning and multi-line capacitated lot-sizing formulation applied to seasonal manufacturing environments), designed a control interface for performing robot actors, evaluated threats posed by intelligent MAV systems, applied machine learning for predictive maintenance, developed an online dashboard to evaluate bicycle riding safety, and contributed to many other projects.
