RESEARCH INTERESTS

  • International human rights norms contestation and "traditional values"
  • Genders, sexualities and queerness in International Relations
  • Interpretive and ethnographic methodologies
  • Experiential learning and reflective practice


The primary empirical focus of Cai's work is the post-Soviet space, and particularly Kyrgyzstan and Russia. Methodologically, Cai utilises critical interpretive approaches that foreground lived experiences and are attentive to the situated nature of knowledge production.
