Associate ProfessorHarriet Koorts

Associate Professor Harriet Koorts is an implementation scientist with more than 15 years’ experience in public health and academia. Her research focuses on implementing and scaling population health interventions in clinical and community settings. She uses implementation science and systems science approaches to develop new methods and examine the mechanisms that support innovation scaling at state and national levels. In 2018, she developed the PRACTIS guide, an evidence-based tool for implementation and scale-up planning in health, which has informed the implementation and scaling of more than 30 interventions across 18 countries.

A/Prof Koorts is Co-Director of the Faculty of Health Implementation Science Unit and leads the Implementation Science and Knowledge Translation Domain at the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN). In these roles, she strengthens implementation science capability through external courses and mentoring, and provides consultancy to academics across the faculty and to external partners as needed.

Over the past 15 years, A/Prof Koorts has applied her expertise in implementation and systems science across a range of roles to translate evidence into practice. Her work has informed the commissioning of health promotion programs and the delivery of clinical health services in Australia and the UK. She has extensive experience designing and leading implementation research, including large-scale implementation trials, and has worked closely with practice and policy partners across the health and education sectors.

Internationally, A/Prof Koorts has founded and chaired several implementation science special interest groups, including the International Society for Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) ‘Implementation and Scalability’ group (2016–2019) and the Asia Pacific Society for Physical Activity (ASPA) ‘Scaling Up Physical Activity’ group (2020–2025). She is currently a board member and Advocacy Lead for the International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH).
