BIO

I am a senior lecturer in Indonesian language and culture and Graduate Research Coordinator for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. I am also an experienced PhD supervisor.

A strong background in language teaching and research has involved extensive in-country experience in Indonesia, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Timor Leste. Work outside the university context has been as an Interpreter/Communications Officer for the Commonwealth Government in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, high school teacher and teacher trainer on the AusAID-funded 'Islamic Schools English Language Project' in East Java, Indonesia.

Interdisciplinary research has resulted in academic publications in sociolinguistics, education, political science and cultural studies. As a member of the Asian Media, Culture and Society Research Group at Deakin University, I am engaged in ongoing collaborative research in Indonesian and Cocos Malay contexts.
