TEACHING EXPERTISE
At the heart of Claire's teaching practice is a deep belief that her responsibility to pre-service teachers does not end at graduation. She designs learning experiences that equip both current and future health and physical education teachers not only with content knowledge, but with the practical and relational skills needed to navigate the most sensitive and high-stakes areas of their profession, including trauma-informed approaches, safe classroom design and responding to disclosures.
Claire's teaching philosophy extends naturally into the classrooms of the teachers she educates. She sees the ongoing professional development of her graduates as a shared responsibility, because the young people they go on to teach deserve educators who are truly prepared for contemporary schooling. This philosophy is reflected in the learning environments she creates: Associate Professor Deb Ollis described her teaching as "incredibly engaging, professional and authentic," while a senior colleague observed a depth of student engagement, “students questioning each other, sustaining focus, and showing genuine curiosity”, that she had not encountered elsewhere. For Claire, this quality of engagement is not incidental; it is the direct result of intentional, evidence-informed and relational pedagogy.
