Associate Professor Kelli Nicola-Richmond is the Associate Head of School Teaching and Learning in the School of Health and Social Development at Deakin University, where she provides leadership in teaching and learning and supports the delivery of high quality learning and teaching activities across a wide range of health and allied health courses.

 

Kelli is passionate about working collaboratively and authentically with others to provide exemplary, evidence-based student experiences and to develop work-ready graduates.

 

With a strong commitment to university governance Kelli holds the role of Deputy Chair of Deakin's Course Standards Committee, a committee that has delegated responsibility for the review and approval of new courses and major revisions to courses. She also represents Deakin on the Board of the Australian Council of Deans of Health Sciences and served for 10 years on the Board of Great Ocean Road Health, retiring recently as she had reached the maximum term.

 

Kelli is an internationally recognised higher education researcher who holds a PhD in Higher Education and actively seeks to translate her research into practice. Her research focuses on assessment in higher education, evaluative judgement, feedback literacy, generative artificial intelligence's impact on learning and assessment, and student underperformance in clinical placements. Kelli has published more than 60 journal articles and book chapters with more than 830 citations.


Prior to arriving at Deakin Kelli worked as a physiotherapist and in allied health quality and practice in Victoria for 16 years and brings her practical experience as a clinician to her work at Deakin.

 

Kelli's leadership and commitment to quality teaching and learning has been recognised with a Vice Chancellors Award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (2015), a WJC Banks Award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching and Learning (2022) and an Australian Award for University Teaching  citation for leadership (2018).
