BIO

Sustainability and durability within the context of construction materials are the main aspects of my research inspiration. My bachelor and PhD research was on non-destructive evaluation of concrete and timber, respectively, which I then extended to timber engineering and hybrid structures during my post-doctoral career.

I have established successful international collaboration with Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) Switzerland, German Aerospace Centre, Utsunomiya University and Akita University in Japan, and Federal University of Pelotas in Brazil to improve some of the sustainability aspect of timber engineering. This includes sustainable manufacturing, use of bio-based adhesives, effective utilisation of natural resources to produce engineered timber products, novel timber-based structural elements, utilisation of end-of-life timber, and timber-based hybrid structural systems.

In addition, I have also been working on the use of recycling materials for producing green concrete with supplementary cementitious materials. I have been working with various industry partners in these areas of research. My third area of research focuses on condition assessment of timber poles and steel pipes using non-destructive techniques to ensure effective maintenance of ageing infrastructure.
