DrMatthew Watson

Throughout my career I have applied innovative research in engineered systems to autonomy, VR/AR trainers, machine vision, medical diagnostic robotics and simulators, haptics, motion simulators and defence related hardware. Operationally, I have internally managed new lab design and layouts, major infrastructure and plant commissioning, control and decommissioning, technical ops, procurement, PhD and technical staff supervision, and faculty teaching.

My main journey has see to the growth and sustained success of the currently titled Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI). From my final year undergraduate project with the initial small team of researchers embedded in the School of Engineering, to the establishment of the strategic research centre CISR and the subsequent expansion to a university institute (IISRI) of 65 staff and 60 HDRs, 22 years at Deakin have provided many valuable and rewarding opportunities.
