Dr Karen Guo is a senior lecturer in early childhood education. Prior to joining Deakin, Karen worked at the Federation University Ballarat, after 11 years of lecturing in New Zealand, with the most recent experience at Waikato University.
Karen's passion for early childhood education spans a broad spectrum of areas, with a special focus on international comparative studies, children's learning dispositions, learner identities, and the experiences of immigrant children and their parents. Throughout her 20-year academic career in early years education, Karen has made significant contributions to the field, leading various research projects and authoring more than 50 publications. Her work is distinguished by the use of diverse theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches.
Currently, she is at the forefront of several pioneering research projects in Australia, Japan, and China. These projects explore children's learning processes and the development of learner identities, both individually and within groups. Karen's work also emphasizes the importance of a culturally and linguistically diverse early childhood teacher workforce.
