BIO
Laura is a lecturer in the School of Psychology who has a specialised interest in the lived experiences of neurodivergent women and gender divergent adults. Laura is passionate about undertaking research that has a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of the Autistic community, as well as translational research that supports identity development, Autistic flourishing and wellbeing. Key topic areas include positive identify formation following a late diagnosis or self-identification, gender affirmation, and the experiences of reproductive transitions for Autistic women and gender divergent people.
A second key research area includes neurodiversity and inclusive education. This topic area explores the unique and lived experiences of Autistic self-identifying females in secondary school as well as the experiences of neurodivergent students in higher education. Research projects are currently seeking to determine the barriers to learning, the factors that can faciliate inclusion, and those that can lead to a positive school experience. Laura is also interested in Autistic students' perspectives and priorities for the ways that education settings can effectively promote learning, belonging, and wellbeing.
