My research is focused on the application of modern analytical chemistry
techniques. I am currently developing methods for the characterisation of an
O-specific polysaccharide from the bacteria Coxiella burnetii and
investigating the use of this OSP in a glycoconjugate vaccine. Alongside this,
I'm working on projects in numerous fields including forensics, environmental/
water analysis and marine sciences with a keen interest in mass spectrometric
techniques.
During my PhD I used a multidisciplinary approach to research the commercial
production of scopolamine by Australian native species called Duboisia.
Specifically my project utilises a range of analytical chemistry and molecular
biology techniques to study the commercial Duboisia leichardtii x Duboisia
myoporoides trees found in the South Burnett region of Queensland. Working
closely with industry this work aims to identify aspects of these Duboisia
species that can be targeted to ultimately improve the efficiency of
scopolamine production.
