ProfessorFethi Mansouri

Professor Fethi Mansouri is a Deakin Distinguished Professor in Migration and Intercultural Studies and the founding Director of the Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation, a leading research institute undertaking significant social sciences and humanities research in Australia and across a wide range of disciplinary fields. In recognition of his contributions, Professor Mansouri was named by The Australian’s Research Magazine as the Australian research leader in the field of Human Migration in 2023, 2024 and 2025, among many other national and international awards.

Professor Mansouri has served for over two decades as an expert advisor to the United Nations (UN) on cultural diversity and intercultural relations. In 2013, he was awarded the UNESCO Chair for Comparative Research on Cultural Diversity and Social Justice at Deakin University. In connection with this role, he also serves as the elected Convenor of the UNESCO UniTwin Network for Inter-religious Dialogue and Intercultural Understanding, a global inter-university research network involving over thirty UNESCO Chairs working on diversity and intercultural relations.

He is Editor of the Journal of Intercultural Studies, founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Citizenship and Globalisation Studies, and founding Co-editor of the International Journal of Social Inclusion. In 2020, Professor Mansouri was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Science (FASSA). in 2026, Professor mansouri was appointed Adjunct Professor in the Mediterranean School of Business at South Medeterranean University in Tunisia.

Professor Mansouri has published over twenty scholarly books. His most recent book is The Global Politics of Forced Migration: An Australian Perspective (2023). He has also authored or co-authored several other books, including Racism in Australia Today (2021), Building Bridges: Creating a Culture of Diversity (2009), Identity, Education and Belonging: Arab Muslim Youth in Contemporary Australia (2008), and Lives in Limbo: Voices of Refugees under Temporary Protection, which was short-listed for the 2004 HREOC Australian Human Rights Commission Human Rights Award for non-fiction. In addition, he has edited or co-edited numerous other books, including:

His research interests include migration studies, refugees, global Islamic politics, interculturalism and multiculturalism, racism, migrant youth identity, language and identity, and the relationship between religious and cultural identity and Muslim cultures in Australia.

Professor Mansouri seeks for his work to reflect and positively impact the wider community in relation to justice, peace and co-existence, and he welcomes partnerships and collaborations with local, national and international researchers, organisations and agencies.
