TEACHING EXPERTISE

My teaching focuses on helping students and practitioners use systems thinking and community development in practice. Students are often drawn to systems thinking because it gives language to complexity, but they need structured opportunities to apply it. My teaching therefore emphasises active learning, modelling practice, structured reflection, authentic assessment and feedback that helps students move from conceptual understanding to practical application.

I regularly deliver short courses to practitioners and community members on how to leverage systems thinking for community led change. At Deakin, I regularly teach into public health and social work classes on community development and systems thinking, including HSW235 Community Development, HSW709 Practicing Social Work with Communities and Groups, HSH736 Community Consultation and Participation, and HSH757 Systems Thinking for Health and Social Transformation.
