BIO

Dr Emily Denniss is a Lecturer (Teaching & Research) in the School of Health and Social Development and a member of the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Deakin University. Emily is also a Registered Public Health Nutritionist with the Nutrition Society of Australia. Her research specialises in public health nutrition and focuses on health and nutrition communication and sustainable healthy diets. Emily's research investigates social media-based health and nutrition communication, misinformation and the relationship between social media use and dietary patterns. She also researches how persuasive communication can be used to promote nutrition and health. Emily has also been involved in research into ultra-processed foods and sustainable healthy diets, including the development of a dietary metric for assessing the environmental sustainability and healthfulness of dietary intake and investigating policies to promote sustainable healthy diets.

 

Emily is also involved in teaching and learning at Deakin Univeristy and has contributed to teaching and curriculum design in a range of public health and public health nutrition subjects including Health Communication, Food Policy and Regulation, Public Health Pracricum, Lifespan Nutrition and Nutrition Promotion. She currently serves as the Minor/Major Masters Research Projects Coordinator in the School of Health and Social Development.

 

Dr Denniss has supervised 2 Masters and 1 Honours student to completion, and currently supervises 1 Masters student and 1 PhD candidate.
