BIO
I am a political communications scholar who teaches and researches the relationship between democracy, power, voice and media. In my research, I explore how marginalised and fringe voices have used media platforms and protests to contest power, advocate for democratic change and justice and amplify competing narratives. This led to contrasting studies of media power and political listening to elite voices in podcasts. My most recent work looks at the political responses to dissenting voices in protest movements. I am also a research fellow at the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning where my project explores women students, oral presentations and inclusivity in the higher education context. My work has been published in New Media and Society, Journal of Radio and Audio Media, Continuum, International Journal of Communication and Media, Culture and Society. I'm a former news journalist and create my own podcasts.
