BIO

Teaching and Research

Dr. Shama Naz Islam received the PhD degree in Engineering from the Australian
National University (ANU), Canberra, Australia in May, 2015. From 2010 to
2011, she had been a lecturer in the department of Electrical and Electronic
Engineering in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. In March
2016, she joined the School of Engineering at Deakin University as a lecturer.
Her research interests involve efficient and reliable transmission protocol
design for smart grid communication. She has more than 20 publications in
prestigious journals and peer-reviewed conferences, including IEEE
Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Journal of Communications and
Networks and IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. In 2012, she received the
best student paper award in Women in Engineering category in IEEE Australia
Council student paper contest. In 2014, she has been accredited as an
associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK. She is the vice chair of
IEEE Power and Energy Society (Victorian chapter) and she is the treasurer of
IEEE Industry Applications Society (Victorian chapter). She is also the
advisor of IEEE Industry Applications Society student branch chapter at Deakin
University.
