BIO
Amanda Keddie is a Professor of Education at Deakin University whose research focuses on gender, masculinities, social justice, and education. Her work explores the complex social, emotional, cultural, and historical patterns shaping identities and relationships. Her most recent project with the eSafety commission explored the online lives of young men and provided insight into their digital agency and criticality when navigating online harms. Amanda’s research spans education and broader contexts in Australia, England, and the USA, with a particular focus on addressing gender-based violence through education. She has published widely, including the books Teaching Boys: Developing Classroom Practices That Work, The Affective Intensities of Masculinity in Shaping Gendered Experience and Young Men’s online lives: cultivating critical digital dispositions for gender justice. Amanda is skilled in translating academic work into practical resources, such as The Working with Men and Boys for Social Justice Assessment Tool, and has successfully collaborated with industry partners, including the eSafety Commission, Victoria Police, and OurWatch, as well as international organisations. Amanda has published over 120 journal articles and books in high impact outlets. She has a strong track record of disseminating research for diverse audiences, including writing for The Conversation and delivering invited keynotes at conferences. Her practice frameworks guide educators and community programs in fostering transformative teaching and learning approaches to promote gender justice and social cohesion.
