BIO

Lucas Rosson is an Associate Research Fellow at Deakin University’s Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM). He is passionate about sustainability, and hopes his research can contribute to materials of the future with minimized environmental impacts. Lucas has a background in mechanical engineering and completed his PhD (engineering) in 2023 at Deakin University. Lucas’ publications span research topics including cellulose processing, dissolution and regeneration, fibre production via wet spinning, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), sodium-ion battery anodes, and 3D printing. He also has a focus on collaborative research with industry, completing projects with Australian companies as well as state water utilities and government bodies.

Lucas is competent across a range of materials characterisation techniques including: Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Raman spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, and rheological analysis.

Lucas has a keen interest in cellulose dissolution mechanisms and is currently working in collaboration with international organisations to develop Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to aid in the processing of biopolymers.
