RESEARCH INTERESTS

Piper's research examines the socio-political and pedagogical factors that shape and inform adult learning in contemprary community and workplace settings.  Piper's research interests are concerned with advancing a more humane and fair society. Her research has examined various aspects of Australian society, attempting to improve the public understanding of systemic and structural injustice. Her research often takes an historical perspective, allowing contemporary society to be viewed critically and in social and political context.

 

Her main research foci are:
* Critical pedagogy to advance opportunities for all in formal and informal education contexts for adult learners* Higher education and post-school pathways and pedagogies
* The impact of neoliberal policy and practice on the public post-compulsory education systems including TAFE and the higher education sector
* Adult education and public pedagogy

  • Adult education pedagogies in and for higher education for research practice
  • Australian higher education sector policy and its affect on those working and studying in the sector
  • A Critical Pedagogy for Campus Activism: Australian University Student Politics in the Jobs Ready Graduate era of higher education
