Dr Quanxiang (Sulley) Li

ARC DECRA Fellow, Institute for Frontier Materials, Deakin University

Dr Quanxiang (Sulley) Li obtained his PhD from Deakin University in 2016 and has more than 15 years of research experience in carbon fibre science. He was awarded the ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) in 2023 and the Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in 2020 for his pioneering work in porous carbon fibre development.

Based at Carbon Nexus, the world-leading carbon fibre research facility within the Institute for Frontier Materials, Dr Li has developed extensive expertise in carbon fibre synthesis, surface and chemical modification, and advanced characterisation techniques. His research focuses on developing sustainable and functional carbon materials for next-generation energy, environmental and advanced manufacturing applications.

Dr Li has published over 50 high-quality journal articles in leading international journals such as Advanced Science, Energy Storage Materials, ACS Nano, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, and Carbon. He has successfully led and co-led several collaborative projects with international industry partners across the fields of carbon fibre manufacturing, medical aids, and water and gas purification.
