Introducing the broad range and approaches of creative arts therapies, eco therapy and inclusive education: EEI302, Introduction to creative arts therapy practice and approaches (up until end 2024).
Also included in my teaching portfolio is the supervision of Masters degree students in education across a broad field.
Expertise Summary:
My expertise summary is best demonstrated by my publications and NTROs. Scanning these or reading these in more depth you will see I am a transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary researcher and educator with a focus on visual art practice, visual art education and arts-health and wellbeing. The PhD and Masters students who I supervise, represent a mixed field of practice based research: artistic practice, indigenous art, inclusive education focusing on the arts, creative arts therapy, teaching and learning science with art and technology approaches, textiles in schools, textiles, painting, mixed media, drawing, sculpture in artistic practice, teaching and learning, creative process, creativity, artworlds, place, space and identity, autoethnography, self-study, narrative inquiry, arts based inquiry practice led research and arts-led research. One of my passions is working one-on-one with students to help them develop the best research projects possible in these complex areas and I am always welcoming new HDR students to my supervision team.
I have been an academic reviewer for the following academic Journals:
Ocean and Society; International Journal for Art and Design Education; International Journal for Educatin in the Arts; Social Sciences and Humanities; Journal of Global Education and Research; Journal of Happiness Studies, Craft, and Qualitative Research Journal.
TEACHING ACTIVITIES
- UNIT TAUGHTECA100, Engaging and exploring arts education (Visual/media arts) (Campus chair, Geelong/Warrnambool). This is a core unit students undertake in the first year of the BEd Primary Teaching Degree.
- UNIT TAUGHTEEA311, Primary Arts Education: Focused Study (Unit Chair - Visual/media arts educator). This is a core unit students undertake in the third year of the BEd Primary Teaching Degree.
- UNIT TAUGHTEDU202, Educators and Learners (Unit Chair) This a unit within the Bachelor of Education Major or Minor suite.
- UNIT TAUGHTEEI302, Role of Multimodal Therapies in Special Education (Unit Chair). This is an elective unit open to students studying teacher education degrees. It looks at the use of the arts in schools drawing on approaches used in arts-health and creative arts therapy approaches that are useful for the developing teacher and all school students.
