BIO
Dr Guncag Ozavci is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research, the Institute for Health Transformation, Deakin University. She has received a prestigious PhD scholarship funded by Australian Research Council (ARC) to investigate communication processes between older people, family members and health professionals about managing medications across transition points of care (2018-2022).
Dr Ozavci has published policy papers and peer-reviewed articles focused on medication management across transitions of care in high quality international journals. She had expertise in health communication regarding medication management and patient safety, environmental and organisational challenges impacting patients' involvement in medication decisions. Throughout her research career, she experienced in co-design, qualitative research methodologies and coordinating randomised and non-randomised clinical trials, extracting, managing and analysing the complex data from electronic medical records, conducting interviews, focus groups, audits and observations with clinicians, patients and family members in hospitals. She currently works on a project examining how hospitalised patients with complex care needs and their families communicate with health professionals in using electronic medical records (EMRs) at Deakin University and Alfred Partnership (EngageEMR).
