BIO

Dr Meg Upton has worked at Deakin University since 2007 and has recently been appointed to an ongoing position at Deakin in the School of Education as an Education Focused Academic.

She is a curriculum specialist in the Arts - Drama, and has also lectured extensively in curriculum and pedagogy teams across the M.Teach specifically in professional placement, wellbing and inclusion, and in undergraduate education units.

Meg has also worked in education research pathways units. 

Meg brings significant industry knowledge to her role as an experienced arts education consultant, working with arts organisations such as Melbourne Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre, Victorian Opera, Arena Theatre Company, Polyglot Theatre, KAGE Physical Theatre, La Mama, Performing Lines, and Arts Centre Melbourne. She has also been a volunteer board member on a number of not-for-profit boards and youth arts organisations including Arena Theatre, Fusion Theatre, Rawcus Theatre Company, Young People and the Arts Australia, Drama Australia, Drama Victoria, and the Green Room Awards Association. 

Meg has a B.Ed in Drama, Dance and English, M.Ed in curriculum and pedagogy - the Arts, and a PhD in curriculum and pedagogy - the Arts. 

Meg is the recipient of several teaching awards and acknowledgements at Deakin University. She has held the role of Research Fellow on three research projects at Deakin in the past few years, which focused on climate justice education, and spirituality in the early years environment. Two new research projects focusing on 'transition' theory in the academic space. 

Meg has also been a research fellow on two key ARC research projects with the University of Melbourne: Theatre Space, and Creative Convergence. Meg has published widely in the field of theatre and young people, and in the theory and practices of teaching performance analysis
