BIO
Monica is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery based at Waterfront campus. Monica is currently appointed to the role of Director of Undergraduate Studies since November 2025. Prior roles include the Deputy Director of Clinical Studies and Course Director, Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) program, Chair/Deputy Chair of School of Nursing and Midwifery Academic Integrity and Progress Committee.
Monica has completed her PhD in the area of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) use for haemodialysis cannulation in 2023. Her research interests are in chronic illness, renal/vascular access, education, e-learning and generative Artificial intelligence. Monica has a number of invited speaker presentations on the topic of renal vascular access and has delivered over 15 national and international conference presentations.
Prior to her appointment at Deakin Monica was the Vascular Access Coordinator for Barwon Health Renal Services in Geelong and worked in Renal dialysis for 11 years after a 5 year stint in Paediatrics in Western Australia and the United Kingdom. She was the Victorian representative on the executive committee of the Nephrology Educators Network from 2007 to 2016 with a year as co-chair in 2017, where she led teams to build Vascular Access and Buttonhole Cannulation E-learning modules. Monica also worked as national coordinator of Renal Society of Australasia's vascular access workshops around Australia and New Zealand from 2017 to 2020 and has convened over 20 workshops. She was founder and co-convener for the annual Deakin/Barwon Health Advanced care workshop for vascular access from 2008 until 2022.
