DrMunirul Nabin

Dr Munirul Nabin is a Senior Lecturer in Economics in the Department of Economics at Deakin University, Australia. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2005, following the completion of a Master of Commerce (Honours) in Economics at UNSW. He also holds a Master of Social Science (Thesis) and a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Economics, both awarded with First Class Honours from the University of Dhaka. In 2025, he further strengthened his expertise in emerging technologies through professional training in Data Science and Machine Learning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. 

Dr Nabin has extensive teaching experience, particularly in postgraduate and MBA programmes. His teaching areas include managerial economics, competitive analysis, global trade and supply chain management, game theory and its applications to business, and quantitative methods.

Research Contributions and International Collaboration

In 2026, Dr Nabin contributed to a major international research collaboration published in the Nature, examining the reproducibility and robustness of research in economics and political science. Drawing on 110 published studies (mostly from the top most Economics journals), the research found that over 85% of published claims were computationally reproducible, while 72% of statistically significant estimates remained robust to alternative analyses. The study contributes to a broader understanding of research reliability, methodological transparency, and scientific integrity in the social sciences.

Awards and Recognition

Dr Nabin has received numerous awards recognising his contributions to research, teaching excellence, and student engagement at Deakin University. His major distinctions include the Faculty Excellence in Research Award (2013), the University Excellence in Teaching Award (2009), and the Vice-Chancellor's Commendation for Teaching Excellence (2009). He was also awarded the Deakin International Fellowship (2018) in recognition of his academic contributions and international engagement.

2019 -2025:  He received multiple departmental awards recognising Teaching Excellence, Student Engagement, and Academic Ambassadorship, reflecting his sustained commitment to high-quality teaching and student success.

Editorial and Professional Service

Dr Nabin serves as an Editor of Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, a peer-reviewed journal within the prestigious Nature Portfolio. He also served as a Council Member of the Economic Society of Australia, Victorian Branch, during 2024–2025, contributing to professional engagement within the Australian economics community.
