DrJade Guan

Dr. Jade Guan is a Senior Lecturer in International Politics and Strategy at Centre of Future Defence and National Security, Deakin University. Her research explores the interplay between China’s foreign policy and domestic politics, and strategic dynamics in Northeast Asia and the South Pacific. Jade's work has appeared in Asia Policy, Australian Journal of International Affairs, Australian Journal of Defence and Strategic Studies, National Interest, East Asia Forum, The Diplomat, The Interpreter, and others. She is a two-time recipient of the Australian Strategic Policy Grant (2021, 2025). 

As an educator, Jade has been shaping professional military education at the Australian Defence College since 2017 through her role as Convenor of the Master of National Security and Strategy Studies (2022–2024) and currently leads the Master of Military and Defence Studies (from 2025). Before joining Deakin, Jade taught at the Australian National University for six years, where she received her PhD in International Relations in 2014.
