BIO
Luke Chong is a Senior Lecturer in Optometry and Vision Science at Deakin University. He obtained his Bachelor of Optometry degree from The University of Melbourne in 2009 and later completed his PhD in 2014. Following this, he undertook a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California Berkeley before returning to Australia to join Deakin University in 2018 as a Lecturer. Dr. Chong is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Australian College of Optometry and Higher Education Academy.
His research interests include clinical psychophysics, advanced visual field testing, dry eye, ocular allergy and virtual simulation in optometric education. His work focuses on developing a better understanding of normal visual processing and damage due to ocular disease, and to develop better clinical tests for the assessment of visual function. Dr. Chong has contributed significantly to the development and validation of novel testing algorithms and open-source frameworks via the Open Perimetry Initiative to better map vision loss in conditions like glaucoma, anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy, and idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Additionally, Dr. Chong collaborates on interdisciplinary research examining ocular surface inflammation, including tear proteomics and metabolomics in allergic eye disease, as well as the development and integration of extended reality technology in optometric education and vision therapy.
