RESEARCH INTERESTS
Mizanur's current research area combines different disciplines, i.e.
Architectural history and digital heritage and heritage management, design
computation and augmented and virtual reality application in architectural
theory and design studies. He has 50 (fifty) over publications that include
book chapters, journal articles and conference proceedings . Mizanur has
attracted several national and international research grants to undertake his
research that includes two ( 2) Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage
Program Grant, Deaprtment o Foreign Affiars and Trade ( DFAT) grant, Deakin
IDF fund, Fundamental Research Grant (Government of Malaysia), Exploratory
Research Grant (Government of Malaysia) etc. His current research focuses on
capturing the historical narrative of lost heritage using augmented and
virtual reality applications that combines disciplines like Architectural
History, Heritage Studies, Intelligent system and Design Studies. As an
architectural historian his investigation looks, both synchronically and
diachronically, the life span of the building (prior to the 'point of
creation' and impact after the death of the building along with the historical
parallels), which he refers as 'architectural narrative' of a building. He
views architecture as an organism than an object that passes through
historical layering and hybridization (political and religious). Mizanur
argues that the question of historical authenticity (from a western
perspective) needs to be rethought and be redefined and hence put equal
emphasis on capturing the historical narrative along with the facts. In the
last one decade his research and teaching demonstrate how architectural
production is linked to shifts in technological paradigms, ideological world-
views, societal beliefs and artistic and creative enterprises.
Knowledge Areas
Architectural Design, History of Architecture, 4d Capturing of Design
Narratives through time, , Tradition and Sustainability and Digital design.
