Dr Liza Raymond (nee John) is an emerging researcher in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) investigating how students integrate theoretical knowledge with the practice of conducting science in the laboratory space of medical science units. She was awarded a 2022 Deakin Design Seeding Grant - Transition Grant ($5K) as Team Leader to conduct a pilot study in the area and a 2023 SoM research start-up fund ($5K) to assist with running a larger scale project. Dr Raymond's previous research investigated anti-tumour efficacy and on-target toxicity of combinational therapies in breast cancer at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. She has published 25 peer-reviewed articles (8 as first author) in this field and supervised/mentored 6 Honours/PhD students. Dr Raymond is currently Associate Supervisor for a collaborative initiative with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) in India for supervision of two MAHE(India)-Deakin HDR students.
Dr Raymond was appointed as Lecturer in Medical Biotechnology, Infection and Immunity at the School of Medicine, Deakin University to commence her role as the unit chair of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science unit, Haematology and Immunology (HMM204) in 2019. She transitioned to the role of Lecturer - Education Focused Academic in 2025. Dr Raymond teaches into many other Biomed major units including HMM102 Principles of Gene and Genomic Technology, HMM103 Cell Technology, HMM202 Molecular Diagnostics, HMM303 Emerging Infectious Diseases and their control (Unit Chair 2020-2025), HMM301 Principles of Pharmacology, HMM304 Therapeutic development, and HMM305 Cell and Tissue Engineering.
